Test your EA for free in your own MetaTrader 5
The trial EA you download from Pine2Expert runs in the MT5 Strategy Tester with no license key and no credit. The result on your dashboard is a quick check on a short window. Here is how to replay years of history, switch symbol and timeframe, and optimize the settings on your own computer.
1Download the trial EA
On your dashboard, press Download to backtest under a finished build. The browser saves a .zip file: unzip it to get the .ex5 file.
2Put it in MetaTrader 5
In MT5 choose File > Open Data Folder, open MQL5, then Experts, and copy the .ex5 file there. Right-click Navigator and choose Refresh: the EA appears under Expert Advisors.
3Open the Strategy Tester and set a long period
Press Ctrl+R (or View > Strategy Tester). On the Settings tab pick your EA, then the symbol and the timeframe. Under Date choose Custom period and enter a long window, for example several years. Open prices only is the fastest model.
4Try other symbols, timeframes and settings
Change the symbol or the timeframe and press Start again. Every Pine input() of your script is an input of the EA: open the Inputs tab to change them.
5Read the result
When the run ends, the Backtest tab holds the report and the Graph tab shows the balance curve. Compare it with your dashboard: a longer window gives far more trades to judge from.
6Optimize the inputs
On the Settings tab set Optimization to a mode other than disabled. On the Inputs tab tick the inputs to vary and fill Start, Step and Stop. Press Start: the Optimization Results tab ranks every combination.
Good to know
- Your broker decides the spread: a wider spread than the one in our backtest gives a worse result.
- Optimizing on one period can overfit. Check the best settings on another period before trusting them.
- MT5 downloads your broker's price history on the first run, so a very long period can take a few minutes.
- Past performance is not indicative of future results.
